I just received a copy of the book 'Letters from Toledo: Adventures of a Female Sailor During the Cold War', and it appears to be a 'must read' for anyone who's served on Adak. Published in 2010, the book is a true story about a girl from Illinois named Kathy Wolf who enlisted in the Navy in 1977.Part Four is about Kathy's year on Adak, from Feb. 1979-1980 (and she wrote me a note that it's her favorite part). The book is in letter form, so if you're like me and have a short attention span, you can read through it letter by letter. The book contains photos and Adak National Forest is on the cover! I'm really looking forward to digging into this. It's a book that I'm sure we will all be able to relate to.
Letters from Toledo is being sold on Amazon.com, and can be quickly located by clicking HERE. Buy this book and support one of our own. Thanks so much Kathy for bringing this to our attention. I know it will be a big seller! ~Bob
